NAA Nationals at Creekwood Archery
February 20th, 21st & 22nd, 2009
These are the guys that said,
"LET THE SHOOT BEGIN"
.

In 13 years of running this business, this event is the only thing we have done where I cried.
While the National Anthem was playing I was thinking about this country that I love and the fact I have
Jesse Broadwater who is going to the World Championships in Poland in a few weeks, plus Rick
Tollis who I'm sure will be representing our country in the next Olympics, and I started choking up.
When the Anthem was over, I said only a third of what I wanted to and could say no more. For those of
you who know me, it's not very often, if ever, when I can't talk. I want to thank the NAA for giving us the
opportunity to host such a wonderful event. Out of 9 JOAD shooters and 51 other shooters we tied 2
National records and set another one. What a treat for us on our trip to "SHOOT EM' IN THE MIDDLE".
For the past 6 years, our shop has done very well on a state level, and now to expose our customers to
the national level is a real treat. The shoot was a lot of work, but we at Creekwood are really excited
about hosting this event in 2010. Here are some pictures for you to enjoy.

These are our JOAD shooters from the Friday 1:00 line. What a great group of young shooters. The
shortest person in the back row is Helen Sahi, our judge from Connecticut. On the far left is Doug Ludwig,
our hometown judge from Rochester, NY.

The future of archery are all smiling units.

These are the 5 gorillas which attended the NAA Nationals. On the left is Ben Adams, the shop owner, and
on the right is Dave Hryn holding his bigger gorilla who has guided him at major shoots since August of 1986.
Dave holds every outdoor fingers shooting record but 2 in the NFAA. A member of probably every archery
organization in the country, Dave does it all. He is our NFAA state director, and a member of the Erie County
Sherriff Dept and a former member of the Buffalo police force, with over 30 years of service. The larger of his
two gorillas has his own police badge and a revolver in the small brown holster on his right side. I asked Dave
when he got his gun.

Dave's answer was, "When he got his permit".                 Above is Christi Colin, a Hoyt Pro, who is the
National Female Compound NAA Double record holder of 1181 set in 2006. The profile shows TJ, her
baby to be, at his fourth major shoot for 2009. When TJ kicks, she has to let down once in a while, but still
remains a top shooter. Christi shot well here, Vegas and Lancaster, plus she is a great gal. She is a Hoyt
Pro who shoots most of the local shoots also at the same time holding World records. Her husband Terry,
owns World Record Strings, which many of our customers including myself and our workers are enjoying.

The 9:00 Saturday line is looking pretty good, and shot pretty good. The young lady in the front row, third
from the right is Michelle Wright, the very first person we gave a lesson to when we first opened. She is a
three time ALL AMERICAN and a super person. Dave Reiss, by himself is a finger shooting machine, and
for many years a member of the NAA.

The 1:00 line had less people, but more people in the picture. I like this line BEST! The 10 year old,
Samantha Reese, in the front row with a dress on won $5.00 from me for putting three arrows in the gold in
one end. I hope this doesn't make her a Pro and keep her from getting all her college scholarships.

These guys from left to right are: Brad Carney, Paul Calleri, Jeff Human, Ron Coyle and Brian Flaherty. Jeff
who shoots like a human won Vegas this year. He is one of the strongest mental game workers in Western
NY. The picture on he right has our crossbow shooter, Terrance Butler,  who shot his highest score in 8
years. He is the third guy in from the left. On his right is Christi & Terry Colin. Terry shoots for the Coast
Guard. Next to them are Lisa & Jessie Broadwater. Jessie tied the National Record with a score of 1192.
Jessie is a low key, high output, quiet Hoyt Pro that is a Jim Despart type, which I admire very much.
Second from the right is Rick Tollis. Watch for him in the next SUMMER OLYMPICS.

More group pictures from Sunday. You might recognize Samantha Neal in the red on the left. She is I
believe the youngest Pro that shot our event and was on the front cover of the Lancaster Archery Catalog.
The two tallest guys in the back row, Mike and Daniel, were our Collegiate shooters at Creekwood, one
from RIT and the other from Alfred University.

It's break time, below. Some folks are thinking, some are adding, and the $5.00 girl is laughing and the judge
is chilling.
 LIFE  IS  GOOD !

This is Jason Carbough who tied Jim Butts Single record of 598 in Male Senior
Compound, with his score card also shown below.

This is Jessie Broadwater and his bride Lisa. Jessie tied the Jim Butts Double
record of 1192, just 8 points from perfect.

This is the judge judging and afterword, the judge resting his feet which were screaming, HELP!

This is our table for questions, look it up, help us out, and double check everything people.

Paul and Diane Calleri, good shooter friends from the Buffalo area. Paul helps run Leo's JOAD program.

Our range, our shooters, their fun, our pride.

Tom Gerstner, a local business man who owns
Anderson Water Systems, is coming back to archery and really getting a kick out of it. He has been on
archery sabbatical for 30 years.

This bow case storage area is the darkest place to play video games in the dark. This blue eyed 10 year
old Samantha Reese is my $5.00 winner girl. She is a good shooter.

The shoot is over, the judge is whipped and see you
in 2010.
 LIFE  IS  GOOD !

These scores are NOT OFFICIAL. The official scores will be the ones you find on the NAA Web-Site (www.usarchery.org) around the end of March or first part of April when all the hoasts have submitted the scores shot and they are all compiled:
