                           134 5/8" 8 Point
                           POPE & YOUNG BUCK

Dave had a day that makes me feel inadequate to write about. He needs my
best friend Roger Lowden to write his story. Roger was the outdoor writer for the
Times Union News Paper who I hunted with for almost 30 years.

Dave spent the whole day bowhunting in Greece NY. Where he hunts there is
a small wooden bridge that goes across a small creek. At 8:00am he had a DOE with 2
fawns walk across the bridge. Over the years he had seen deer do this a couple times.
They hung around his stand for a while and left.

Next he had a spike buck with one 9" and one 3" spike. Then a small 6 point chased
him off. Not long after two 8 points were chasing each other and the bigger of the two
actually ran into his ladder stand. The 8 point seemed to be dazed from hitting the
ladder quite hard, and Dave took a shot at it and missed. Boy he is glad he missed
now.

At 1:15 (really 12:15) he took a 15 minute break for lunch. Back in his stand he saw a 6
or 8 point chasing off a button buck. Over the day he saw 7 different bucks, and saw a
number of them more than once. This buck he shot, he saw three times, drew on him
once & couldn't get the shot he wanted. At 2:30 he came back again probably because
one of the does he had seen was dripping scent.

The buck walked behind a large Black Walnut tree and Dave drew his bow. The BUCK
then walked toward Dave's stand and when the BUCK was a little past broadside
Dave stopped the BUCK with his voice and made the 15 yard shot.

He shot him with a Magnus Buzz Cut broadhead. After the shot the BUCK maybe went
10 yards and just stood there. Dave could see his arrow had passed thru and the buck
was bleeding bad. After watching for a while Dave had the opportunity for a second
shot and shot the BUCK a second time with a Rage broadhead. His first shot was a
complete pass thru. The second shot not a pass thru. When Dave watched the BUCK
tip over for his dirt nap he had traveled only about 40 yards. This obviously was
Dave's best day ever bowhunting.
