2011 Chemung County Senior Games:

Creekwood has been going to The Chemung County Rod and Gun Club for this event for as long as we have known about it. Dennis Sheahan  is the head of their archery program and when he became a Creekwood customer, Voila, the relationship was born, and a good one it is.

This year 2011 Creekwood's Ron Coyle shot the best score of the entire event. You have to be 50 years old to shoot. The age brackets are 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, etc. Ron's score was 28X-587 out of a perfect 600. The picture is his last 5 arrows shot at 40 yards, all X's. The Coylage RULES AGAIN -
LIFE  IS  GOOD !

We started out at 60 yards with 2 rounds of practice and then 4 ends of 5 arrows each for score. Then we move the targets to 50 yards and shoot 1 round of practice followed by 4 ends of 5 arrows each for score. Then we move the targets to 40 yards and shoot 1 round of practice followed by 4 ends of 5 arrows each for score. So we shot a total of 80 arrows of which 60 of them are for score. Of all the years I have attended this shoot, this was by far the best weather, the calmest winds, and as a result will be hard to beat in the years to come. The shooters from Creekwood were Ron Coyle, Ben Adams, Fred Case, Joe Georgi, Dave Benty, Ray Scroger, Dick Reuter, Tom Sawyer, Steve VanZile and Dave Reese.

As the plack explaines, Horseheads got it's name because Sullivan put down his pack horses who were warn out. The Indians lined up the heads in a row and when the settelers came they found the line of Horse skulls, and named there Town Horseheads. As you can see on the right the day couldn't have been any better.

In between each distance the targets have to be steaked to the ground so if the wind blows the targets over, your arrows dont get broken. On the right in the orange shirt is Mike Collins from Syracuse who we always enjoy shooting with.

Handles on the front and back of the targets are used to move the targets to the next distance to be shot. What a GREAT TIME - Come and play in 2012.
